ZECHARIAH wasn’t at his best in the Bahrain Trophy last time out (keen; race possibly came a bit quick), but he bounced back here, making every yard and galloping on strongly in the closing stages to lower the course record by 2.35sec. He’s 20-1 for the St Leger, which looks fair, especially compared with the 10-1 about Eldar Eldarov given their Queen’s Vase photo finish, but it might be that Australia provides even better opportunities later in the year.

Made all, pushed along over 3f out, ridden over 2f out, kept on strongly (op 2/1 tchd 11/5)

Intressant start gör (Luxembourg) som jag haft ögonen på sedan han var 2 år.

Första starten sedan 30 april och lågt odds. Penningköparna lär kliva in men jag står över spel.

LUXEMBOURG got the job done but only by narrowly from a mare having her first start since March. On the face of it, this was not the sort of smooth and authoritative performance one would have expected from a juvenile Group 1 winner, 2,000 Guineas third and one-time Derby favourite, but there were mitigating circumstances certainly, both in the form of his interrupted training schedule and a pace that was not especially searching. On the positive side, he battled away as the pair drew clear, but he will have to raise his game several notches in order to deliver on the reputation he has carried throughout his career. Aidan O’Brien’s remarks about the touch-and-go nature of his participation following a skin allergy deserve to carry significant weight, but doubts will remain for now.

Held up in behind leaders, niggled along over 3f out, headway on outer when pushed along over 2f out, led over 1f out, ridden when faced challenge and joined inside final furlong, rallied and ran on towards finish, just did enough, workmanlike (tchd 2/11)

SEARCH FOR A SONG winner of the Irish St Leger in 2019 and 2020, could finish only sixth behind Sonnyboysliston when bidding for the hat-trick last year, a feat achieved only by the same trainer’s four-time winner Vinnie Roe. She put in a stout effort on her first run since May and this should leave her in good shape for another tilt at the Group 1 contest.

Soon raced in second, led when edged right 6f out, joined when pushed along over 2f out, ridden when headed over 1f out, kept on well but held inside final furlong, no match for winner (op 15/8)
